It doesn’t stand to personally benefit him, but outgoing Great Falls Town Councilman Roddey Leonhardt put forth something for a vote last week.
“I move we double the council and mayor’s pay,” said Leonhardt, who lost a bid for reelection earlier this month.
That motion was made after an executive session that featured “personnel matter concerning all departments.” There was very little discussion of the matter, though Mayor Josh Brantley said the compensation was past due for an adjustment.
“I don’t think they have ever been increased,” he said.
For years, the pay for members of Great Falls Town Council has been $2,310 a year (or $192.50 cents a month), while the mayor’s pay is $3,960 (a monthly total of $330). So the proposal from Roddey raised that to $4,620 annually ($385 monthly) for council members and $7,920 ($660-a-month) for the mayor.
On top of that, Councilman Bradd Lyles said the pay for the Town attorney (Brian Grier) needed to be raised as well. After some discussion, Lyles called for that pay to be doubled as well, which would take it from $6,000-a-year to $12,000 annually.
“This should’ve been done a long time ago,” Lyles said.
Great Falls Town Council meets once-a-month for regular meetings, with occasional work sessions and special called meetings. The motions for pay increases both passed unanimously.
